About Us
Saffron Restaurant first opened in Oldbury back in 2003. It was then a modest 40 cover eatery with an ambition to break the mould of Indian restaurants and attempt something new. The menu consisted of regional dishes from the subcontinent that were truly Indian. A huge risk of omitting the British influences such as Chicken Tikka Masalla and Vindaloo was at first met with some resistance by diners expecting their favourites. This was gradually overcome and the Saffron brand began to shine. Within the first 18 months, the restaurant was extended to 70 covers. A host of accolades including Best Regional Restaurant award given by the Good Food guide initiated further expansion to 96 capacity. In 2011 Saffron received the prestigious AA rosette and remains only of two Indian restaurants in Birmingham to hold this.
Saffron opened its flagship fine dining restaurant in the heart of Birmingham's business district in 2011. Chef Patron Saha's aim here it to push the boundaries even further by utilising local and seasonal produce fused with Indian spices. This is again a risky concept but the results are truly magnificent. Dishes such as Venison, Rabbit and Scallops all cooked using traditional European techniques are hugely popular and this is redefining what Indian fine dining is.
Saffron currently has four restaurants each with a different concept. Innovation, dedication and quality are just some the ingredients used to ensure Saffron continues to grow in the coming years.
